A friend passed along a link to me about the accessibility of PDF’s. The report is quite extensive, provides great information on how accessible PDF’s really are.
This article is from the Australian Government Department of FInance and Deregulation. The gist of it that PDF’s have gotten criticized in the past for poor accessibility. It has improved, however, it still has a ways to go.
The report uses user evaluations and provides results of testing done with assistive technology including ZoomText, MAGic, JAWS, Dragon and more.
Update:
There’s a service called WebbIE, and they provide a program called Accessible PDF here: WebbIE Accessible PDF site.
